The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
